Samantha originally trained as a Clinical Scientist on the Scientist Training Programme (STP) at the Royal Free Hospital, London. During her three years there, she completed multiple placements including Virology at St George’s Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and epidemiology at Public Health England, Colindale. She gained her Masters in Clinical Science (Infection Sciences).
Following completion of STP and gaining HCPC registration as a clinical scientist, Samantha undertook a Higher Specialist Scientific Training (HSST) post at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in the Microbiology department from 2014 where she formed strong links between the laboratory, clinical teams and infection control. As part of the HSST programme she has completed a post-graduate diploma in Leadership and Management in Healthcare Sciences from University of Manchester. She started a post as a consultant clinical scientist at Public Health England, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in March 2021 and is keen to promote the role of clinical scientists in microbiology.
